Fees

Texas statutory fees plus a nominal $39 travel fee. That is the whole price list.

Texas law caps what a notary may charge for each act. We charge those amounts, add one travel fee for coming to you, and quote anything else before we start.

Texas Government Code §406.024 sets the maximum fee for every notarial act, adjusted for inflation every five years; the current schedule took effect September 1, 2023. A notary may charge those amounts and no more for the notarial act itself. A travel fee for a mobile visit is separate: it is not regulated by the fee schedule, it must be agreed to before the appointment, and it must be itemized on its own line so it is never confused with the notarial fee. Ours is a nominal $39 anywhere in El Paso.

The table below is the statutory schedule we follow. Two signers acknowledging one power of attorney at your home, for example, is $11 in notarial fees ($10 for the first signature, $1 for the second) plus the $39 travel fee — $50 total. A parent and a homeowner each swearing to a school residency affidavit is two oaths, $20, plus travel.

FAQ

Common questions about notary fees in El Paso

Why do some El Paso notaries charge $6 or $15 per signature?

Texas raised the maximum from $6 to $10 for the first signature on September 1, 2023, so “$6” is the old schedule. Anything above $10 for a first signature or $1 for an additional signature exceeds the statutory cap unless it is a separately disclosed travel or convenience charge. Our receipts show each act at the statutory rate and the travel fee on its own line.

Is the $39 travel fee charged per document or per visit?

Per visit. One trip to your home covers every document and every signer present at that appointment; you pay the notarial fee for each act plus one travel fee. A second location the same day is a second trip.

Do you charge if the notarization cannot be completed?

If we arrive and must refuse — the signer has no acceptable ID, is not aware of what they are signing, or the document is incomplete — the travel fee is still due because the trip was made, but no notarial fee is charged. We try to prevent this by confirming ID and document details when you book.
